Breaking Free: My Journey From Burnout To Balance
“Breaking Free: My Journey From Burnout To Balance!"
- Misty Creaghe
This is my journey the high and the low and how I changed it!
For years, I followed all the advice I was given. I exercised, I ate “clean,” and I pushed through exhaustion because that’s what I thought I had to do to be healthy. But instead of getting better, I got worse.
At 40, I found myself on progesterone and testosterone to correct hormone imbalances that no one had explained to me. I was burnt out, constantly exhausted, and my body was spiraling out of control. On top of that, my doctors warned me that I was on the fast track to chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, IBS, Asthma, and Hormone Imbalances.
I was doing everything I was told to do—so why was I only getting sicker? Why did every doctor visit end with more medication or worse symptoms and the threat of more medication? I was fed up and took matters into my own hands. I knew my limited nutrition was not enough, even if what I knew contradicted the doctor's advice, but I had to get more knowledge. With the help of my mentors with my mindset growth and business coaching, I got the confidence to challenge what the Doctors were feeding me. Thats when I found Metabolic Syndrome and with the mindset shifts to balance my life was when I found my purpose and the solution.

What is Metabolic Syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome isn’t a single disease—it’s a combination of risk factors that put your body in danger. It’s a warning sign that something is seriously off.
You may have metabolic syndrome if you have three or more of these symptoms:
✔️ Insulin resistance (prediabetes or diabetes)
✔️ High blood pressure
✔️ High cholesterol or triglycerides
✔️ Increased belly fat
✔️ Chronic inflammation and fatigue
✔️ Low HDL cholesterol
All the warning signs were right there in front of me, yet No One saw that. They also didn't see the same advice they were giving me was making this problem worse and adding more. Yes, they told me the results I needed, which was to lose belly fat, exercise, sleep better, lower my stress, and eat better. The thing was, what they are were telling me to do to get those results, weren't working and in fact making the issue worse.
Traditional Advice Was Failing Me
Like many women, I was given the same outdated recommendations over and over again:
❌ Eat less – Cut calories, reduce portions, and avoid snacks.
❌ Exercise more – Increase intensity, do more cardio, and never skip a workout.
❌ Eliminate sugar, fruit, and carbs – Because carbs “cause” weight gain. Fruits have too much sugar. your body is processing the sugar you are putting in its too much.
❌ No Red Meat, Eggs, – Red meat has too much fat it's not good for you. Eggs have too much cholesterol.
I cut my calories to 1,500 a day. I trained harder and longer. I avoided sugar, fruit, and most carbs, meats, and eggs like the plague. I told myself I just needed more discipline.
And yet…
🚨 My fatigue got worse.
🚨 My stress skyrocketed.
🚨 I gained weight instead of losing it.
🚨 My metabolism slowed to a crawl.
🚨 My doctors kept adding medications instead of solutions.
At this point, I felt completely broken. I was doing “everything right,” but my body was fighting against me. I started to believe that maybe this was just my reality—that I was meant to struggle, that exhaustion was part of getting older, and that I would never feel good again.
And then, something clicked.
Even Coaches Need Coaching
As a personal trainer, I had studied fitness and health. But when my doctors contradicted what I had learned, I questioned myself.
👀 Maybe they knew something I didn’t.
👀 Maybe I wasn’t as knowledgeable as I thought.
👀 Maybe I just needed to try harder.
But deep down, I knew something wasn’t adding up. So, with the encouragement of my mentors, I started digging deeper into metabolism, stress, and women’s health.
That’s when I made a shocking discovery:
👉 Doctors are NOT required to take a single nutrition course in medical school.
I had spent years trusting their advice, only to realize that they were never taught the very thing that could heal me. Instead of fixing my metabolism, I had unknowingly put myself into survival mode—a state where my body was desperately trying to hold on to every ounce of energy, shutting down fat-burning, digestion, and deep sleep. My metabolic syndrome symptoms were a byproduct of that, the burnout, the exhaustion, the low energy, weight gain, all the gut issues, breathing issues, sleep issues. I felt like I was shutting down, and it was all connected.
Survival Mode: The Root of My Struggles
When your body is in survival mode, it’s like trying to drive a car with an empty gas tank.
🚫 Your gut slows down, leading to bloating, constipation, and food sensitivities.
🚫 Your body holds onto fat, making weight loss nearly impossible.
🚫 Your stress hormones skyrocket, making you anxious, moody, and exhausted.
🚫 Your sleep suffers, leaving you tired no matter how much you rest.
🚫 Your metabolism slows, causing you to burn fewer calories even when you do eat.
This was the cycle I had unknowingly trapped myself in. And the only way out wasn’t less—it was more.
The Answer Wasn’t Less—It Was MORE
Instead of cutting my calories further, I needed to nourish my metabolism.
Instead of training harder, I needed to train smarter.
Instead of doing more, I needed to balance my life.
✨ I increased my calories from 1,500 to 2,200 a day—while losing weight and gaining muscle.
✨ I went from a size 18W to a 14.
✨ I ditched medications I once relied on.
✨ I have energy all day long—without caffeine crashes.
✨ My stress is manageable, my sleep is deeper, and I have more patience.
✨ I ate food that improved my metabolism.
✨ I used Stress management techniques.
✨ I ate more meat and eggs and really increased my protein.
✨ I used Sleep optimization techniques.
✨ I worked out less with Strength HIIT, or Weightlifting,
✨ I Increased my Non-Exercise movement
The best part? This wasn’t just about physical changes.
I started doing the inner work—getting clear on my goals, values, and self-worth. I stopped seeing self-care as selfish and embraced it as the foundation of my health.
